Donor Network West Achieves Record-Breaking Milestone: 100 Organ Donors in the First Two and a Half Months of the Year
Reno, Nev. (March 11, 2025) – In a historic achievement that underscores the growing impact of organ donation, Donor Network West reached 100 organ donors in the first two and a half months of the year—marking the fastest timeframe in the organization’s 38-year history to hit this milestone. This unprecedented success reflects the generosity of donors and their families and the unwavering support of hospitals and healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to facilitate the donation process. Donor Network West is on track to save more lives than ever before, reinforcing its mission to provide hope and healing through organ, eye and tissue donation.
“This milestone is more than just a number—it represents 100 individuals who have given the ultimate gift of life and countless families who have made the selfless decision to say ‘yes’ to donation,” said Dr. Janice Whaley, president and CEO of Donor Network West. “With thousands of people waiting for a lifesaving transplant, we are more determined than ever to bridge the gap between donation and the urgent need for organs.”
As the demand for organ transplants continues to grow, this milestone serves as a reminder of the crucial role that organ donation plays in saving lives. Currently, 110,000 people in the U.S. are on the national transplant waiting list, with over 20,000 in California and Nevada alone. Every donor has the potential to save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of 75 others through tissue donation.
The organization urges community members to consider the impact of organ, eye and tissue donation and take action by signing up as organ donors. For more information, or how to register as a donor, visit DonorNetworkWest.org.
