Over 700 Nevadans Await the Gift of Life

One donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and heal another 75 through tissue donation. More than 900,000 Nevadans have already registered to become organ donors. But the need is great as less than one percent of all registered donors are able to meet the criteria for organ donation. That means as Nevadans, we must learn the facts about organ donation and talk with friends and family about the importance of giving hope to someone in need.

The Impact Of Organ Donation In Nevada

Right here in northern Nevada, there are thousands of people who have been impacted by the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. Business owners, community leaders, and everyday heroes have given and received the ultimate gift of life.

Haylee Ponte

Nancy Ponte, a donor mother from Nevada, holds a photo of her daughter, Haylee.

Haylee Ponte from Sparks, Nevada died in 2015 at age 19 from a fatal asthma attack and went on to save and heal lives through organ and tissue donation. Her mother, Nancy, honors her daughter by sharing her story and promoting donation as a Donate Life Ambassador.

Amy Camacho

Amy Camacho, kidney and pancreas recipient from Sparks, NV.

Amy Camacho from Sparks, NV is a 5th grade teacher and a kidney and pancreas recipient. With her second chance at life, Amy continues to teach and inspire her community to become organ donors. Amy was also able to meet her donor family and ride on the 2018 Donate Life Rose Parade Float.

Our Work In Nevada Communities

The northern Nevada community has been part of our organization for the last decade, and together we have made a great impact by saving lives throughout Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Humboldt, Mineral and Washoe Counties. We partner with nurses, doctors, families, funeral homes, coroners and medical examiners to facilitate the recovery of organs and tissue for transplantation. Some of those healthcare partnerships include Renown Health, St. Mary’s, Northern Nevada Medical Center and Carson Tahoe Hospital. Additionally, Donor Network West recently partnered with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to offer a “second chance” to motorists registered as Nevada organ donors by issuing a warning ticket as opposed to a fine for minor traffic violations.
